Dr. Vargas was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico. After graduating high school he traveled to central Pennsylvania and obtained his B.S. and M.D. at the Pennsylvania State University. He completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the Harvard University combined training program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ Massachusetts General Hospital. He then completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic. Since graduation, Dr. Vargas has received a K12 award from the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and AACR Career Development Award. He currently serves as a board-certified gynecologic oncologist at The Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Vargas’s research focuses on endometrial cancer, the most common form of gynecologic malignancy. His work seeks to address a large unmet need in this disease site; identify those tumors poised to resist traditional therapies and develop novel treatment paradigms for both high-risk early-stage disease and metastatic cases using genomics and evolutionary experimentation.
